Hiking to Arenal Volcano (1968 trail) + Hot Springs

Leaving from the town of La Fortuna we will head towards the west side of the volcano, there you will experience a hike through the rain forest, for about 2 hours at a very moderate rate. On the hike we will expect to see some gorgeous birds, monkeys, lost of wildlife and exotic vegetation.

After exiting the rain forest, we get to the viewing point at sunset where you will enjoy a cold beverage with the chance to see the imposing mountain. Our local naturalist guide will share with you all the facts and history of it.

Finally, you will get the opportunity to relax and soak in the hot springs waters of your preference: Baldi Hot Springs, Tabacon Hot Springs, Paradise Hot Springs or Ecotermales Hot Springs, you can also include a delicious dinner.

Amazing Two Volcano Extreme Hike

We start the hike going up a steep jungle trail that takes us to the top of the Chato Volcano. After about two hours of jungle workout we reach the top. From the crater edge we make our way down to get to the beautiful green lagoon.

Here you can enjoy the experience of swimming in an extinct volcano. After lunch we go down the Chato on the opposite side. The hiking gets lighter as we cross farmland to make it to the Observatory Park.

Here you pass two hanging bridges and visit the Danta River and waterfall. Along the way your guide will explains about the ecosystem, the volcanoes and the animals you can see. Amongst others we often see monkeys and tropical birds. Leaving the forest we reach the Arenal Observatory. In its little museum you can see the seismograph and we explain more about the volcano.

We finish the hike at the deck of the Observatory Lodge.  Here we enjoy the panoramic view of the volcano and Arenal Lake till the sun goes down. Transportation will be ready to take us down. On our way we will try to find the red eyed tree frog.

To finish the tour in the most relaxing way we take you to the natural hot water river. We relax in its soothing warm water for about an hour and you can enjoy a volcanic mud facial and a complementary cocktail.

Rio Celeste / Light Blue River

At a two hour drive from La Fortuna we visit the Tenorio Volcano National Park. After some hiking we will get to the Rio Celeste (blue river). The blue color you can see is the result of a chemical reaction between two merging rivers containing different volcanic minerals.

It’s a very rare phenomenon which creates a fairytale- like beauty. The hike itself is medium tough and takes about 4 hours. It will take you to a waterfall, a lookout point and the place where the river changes colorsWith the help of the guide there is a good possibility of seeing wildlife.

After the hike we’ll have lunch and start our drive back to La Fortuna.

La fortuna waterfall

Set at 3 miles from the town, La Fortuna waterfall emerges from dense jungle greenery before plummeting some 200 feet (65 m) into an emerald pool below.

Those that have brought along swimming suits and a hearty sense of adventure can swim in the chilly water below the fall. Others can enjoy a picnic along the rocky shoreline or a round of nature photography – indeed; it’s hard to take a bad picture in a place as beautiful as this. The fall can be arrived at by foot or on horseback.

The trail runs through pasture and rainforest, offering up chances to spot toucans, monkeys, and other tropical creatures. It takes about 15 minutes to hike down the stair set to the waterfall and an hour to arrive by horse. A non-profit organization runs the waterfall, using the entrance fee to help maintain the surrounding area.

Canopy los cañones

Canopy Tour Los Cañones offers a tour full of adrenaline within the beautiful Costa Rican rainforest, with the possibility of seeing tropical birds or howler monkeys, while you are a guest in their home.

Arenal volcano hike + Natural Hot Water River

The best way to get close to the Arenal volcano, enjoy a jungle walk and visit the hot water river. We start our visit at the deck of the Observatory Lodge. 

Here we enjoy the panoramic view of the volcano and Arenal Lake. We hike through gardens and forest, pass two hanging bridges and visit the Danta river and waterfall.Along the way your guide explains about the ecosystem, the volcanoes and the animals you get to see. If you want to go from Fortuna to Monteverde, or vice versa, there is a time effective and fun way of doing that. Book the shuttle-boat-shuttle connection and you will be brought from door to door.

A shuttle takes you to the Arenal lake where a boat waits for you to cross the lake, on the other side of the lake another shuttle will be there to take you to your hotel.

The Pacuare River is one of the best choices for your adventure treks in Costa Rica. No other trip in the country exists that offers you a perfect blend of wilderness exposure and excitement, all in one day.

Pacuare is world famous for its sheer beauty. A true river gorge, it is flanked by steep, green walls. You see waterfalls cascade into the river from both sides as colorful, tropical birds fly right over your head. Wildlife is abundant, with sloth, toucans, parrots, coatis, morpho butterflies and colorful frogs being common sights. The 18 mile one day run includes a total of 52 rapids. Few rivers in the world can offer you so many.

The first 4 miles consist of fun class III-IV rapids which is a perfect time to test your new river skills and gain confidence in your team. After about 40 minutes we will enter the famous Pacuare River Gorge, which is 5 miles of some of the best white water Costa Rica has to offer.

This river offers some of Costa Rica’s best white water with big waves, technical rapids and continuous whitewater.

Our journey begins with a 1.5 hour scenic drive through the Eastern portion of central Costa Rica through the beautiful pineapple, papaya and yucca fields with Volcano Arenal set in the backdrop. Once we reach our destination, our trained/skilled guides will review the rules and safety guidelines for the river to familiarize yourself with your job as paddlers.

Then we will take the PLUNGE and head down river. We ill enjoy the spectacular scenery and a thrilling ride. Halfway through our journey we will "re-fuel" on the river bank and enjoy some delicious tropical fruit while soaking in the tropical surroundings.     Chocolate Tour

    Horseback riding

    Featuring the Arenal Volcano and its surrounding rainforest as the main natural scenery, at our horseback riding camp you can enjoy a key nature tour for your Costa Rican vacation, on very well tended horses. After horseback riding lessons or instruction as needed, you will be ready to ride the trails, including a rainforest portion where howler monkeys and birds can be seen.

    Caves

    Going deep into the insides of the earth is possible with this tour. Underground trails will lead us through grottos and chambers exploring a world indifferent to light.With flashlights to light our way and all the gear for the adventure, we will enter into this labyrinth of ancient underground rivers and seabed’s, exposed now after thousands of millions of years.
